Andy Rodgers - Double Bassist
Andy Rodgers - Double Bassist with the StarlightSymphony Orchestra

Andy Rogers is a unique double-bassist with a keen eye for musical color and texture. He has performed extensively as a chamber musician, orchestral player, and as a soloist. His creative style and versatility are reflected in the diverse musical groups he performs with.

Residing in Austin, Texas, Andy began his bass studies at age 11. As a McCallum Fine Arts Academy Orchestra Major under the direction of Ricky Pringle, he took private lessons with Dr. David Neubert and placed 2nd in the All-State Symphony Orchestra in 2011. The same year, he was named the Texas UIL State Solo and Ensemble Outstanding Soloist. It was during his high school years that Andy first began playing with the Starlight Symphony Orchestra.

Following high school, Andy spent a year at the Mannes School of Music in NYC studying under Orin O'Brian, Associate Principal of the New York Philharmonic. Upon returning to Austin, Andy joined the Austin Civic Orchestra where he won the Member's Solo Competition and was featured as a soloist. It was at that time that he also resumed playing with the Starlight Symphony Orchestra as a resident musician.
In 2017, he returned to McCallum High School for the Fine Arts Academy Convocation, where he performed Bach's “Partita No. 3 for Solo Violin,” which he transposed and adapted for double bass.

Andy has spent the last two years as the principal bassist for the University of Texas Wind Ensemble, under the direction of Jerry Junkin. He is also the principal bassist for Density512, a start-up orchestra that originated from UT students. He also plays regularly with PrismATX Ensemble, UT Lab Orchestra, UT Wind Symphony, and the Art of Band Conducting and Rehearsing Workshop with Jerry Junkin. As his musical schedule erupts with frenzied activity and praise, he is pleased to continue to donate his time to the Starlight Symphony Orchestra.

When he's not performing on bass, Andy enjoys playing in several local bands as a drummer.
