Blanco River - Dry

Blanco River - July 4, 2002

Blanco River - July 5, 2002

Flood stage for the Blanco River is 13 feet. On occasion, the Blanco has experienced dramatic flooding. The top five historical crests are:

(1) 33.3 ft on 05/28/1929
(2) 28.89 ft on 11/16/2001
(3) 28.5 ft on 10/17/1998
(4) 25.71 ft on 07/05/2002 (Click here to see photos)
(5) 20.46 ft on 06/09/1997

It is notable that four out of these five have occurred in the last few years. Many experts attribute this to overdevelopment or unplanned development in the area creating a high ratio of impermeable surfaces resulting in high runoff.

When we have a weather event in the area, check out the online  resources below to help you make decisions about traveling or evacuation. If you have suggestions to add to these links, please let us know.
