As a public service, we are posting the following announcement to help answer questions from residents concerning the recent vote to turn over road maintenance to Hays County for the following subdivision. Please direct any specific questions to the Hays County Office of the County Engineer: http://engineering.co.hays.tx.us/Thank you. Public statement issued by Hays County Road Engineer Superintendent, Jerry Borcherding, concerning logistics of road maintenance for Cedar Oak Mesa, a subdivision in the Wimberley area (not within the Village of Wimberley): "1. Limited work (brush cutting and minor drainage work) could begin within the next two months. This project is scheduled for completion during FY07 which begins in October 2006. We may delay be bulk of the heavier work until spring so we can better avoid the rainy/wintry weather and the "mess" associated with doing roadwork during those periods. 2. County crews will be used as much as possible to reduce the costs. 3. Amount of annual assessment to COM property owners will be determined after project completion, when actual costs are totaled. 4. Trimming of trees for equipment clearance will be as conservative as possible and is dependent on the work needed to be accomplished at that tree's location. The Road Department is sensitive to the importance of trees to the community. 5. Equipment storage areas are yet to be determined, but will be announced. In all cases, the citizen's needs will be honored. 6. The Road Department does not intend to conduct a full reconstruction of all roads. Only those areas that need full depth reconstruction will be "torn up". Generally we will make needed repairs of base failures, pot holes, collapsed culverts, etc. and then "clean" the edges of the pavement in order to widen the road as much as possible without disturbing fences, lawns, or landscaping. In some locations it may be impossible to hold strictly to this process. In those cases we will contact the property owner and discuss a solution. We will always be sensitive to the needs of the property owner who will be affected. After all this "prep" work is completed, we will pave the roads with two course chip-seal."
