Okay, I can't find the banter about HEB..so I'll start my own. I was informed of HEB taking bids for their new store on "the bypass". Does anyone else know anything about this? I've checked Hays Comm. site and nothing is on the agenda, nor is it on the HEB site as of yet. I will say that (as unpopular as it is) I am from Houston and HATE THAT THIS MAY BE HAPPENING!!! If I wanted a "store" on every corner, I would have stayed. My blood is boiling that this is even an option in our little paradise and will do whatever it takes to maintain the integrity and the convenience of being able to drive through some of the most beautiful roads ever to do a little shopping...no matter how long it takes.

I think there has been, and will continue to be, rumors about the future of the bypass. Earlier rumors involved Walmart. You could probably call the P3 county commissioner's office directly. My limited experience with the commissioner has been good and informative. For one thing, I don't think anything much will be happening until the road opens and a decision is made on handling water/watewater for that area. I'd say hold off on boiling your blood, at least for now. Keep it simmering - something's bound to happen.

No need to get too worked up just yet Buster but Mr. Chevious is right, something is bound to happen. I just read where Home Depot and HEB are coming to the corner of 290 and RR 12 in Dripping Springs so it's just a matter of time until they show up here. I'm sorry to say the Wimberley you knew whenever you first arrived is soon to be a long gone memory. Progress will march down the street and squash it flat.

I doubt that the village of Wimberley can support a Home Depot or HEB if they are also in Dripping. This may be just a bit of hysteria.
Stay cool............

I do so hope you are right but alas I remember the days when you had to wait weeks to get a telephone installed. When Wimberley and Dripping Springs each had only one deputy. When joining the electric co op cost $35 and the grocery store closed at 4:30 on Sunday and you had to drive to San Marcos to get an Austin newspaper anytime. Progress is marching down the road pretty fast. I bet you a nickel (a buffalo one) it's going to happen by..(HEB)......ummmm......August 2009. Are you a gambling sort? You might be right on the Home Depot though. My guess is HEB in 2009 depending on the passing of legal beer and wine sales. Wanna bet? Is gambling permitted around here? Even if it isn't let's do it anyhow! Don't tell the administrator, ok?

Unless the bypass is covered by the Woodcreek liquor allowance, HEB will not be building here. HEB will not build a store unless they can sell beer/wine in that store. quote: Originally posted by Buster: Okay, I can't find the banter about HEB..so I'll start my own. I really appreciate everyones input....it seems that "we" don't want an HEB/Home Depot, but are almost "rolling over" to the fact it is coming. I will stay calm for now, but my mama (doesn't matter where you are from) taught me to stand up for my convictions and beliefs...and I believe that the charm of Wimberley should not be tarnished anymore. So, THANKS TO YOU ALL and I look forward to talking and walking with you through all of this unwanted growth.

Home Depot is definately coming to Dripping Springs. My husband is a contractor, and got an offer to bid the job. He said it will be off RR 12 and Sports Park Road, which is right before you hit 290. They haven't started it yet, but are getting bids. I don't think HEB will build where another existing grocery store is, but I could be wrong.

I'm with you, Buster. We certainly don't have to take this laying down. I think more and more people are becoming savy to "progress", how much it sucks for most us who are not developers, etc. Look how much crap Austin citizens have been giving the big giant WalMart recently and how they have had to rethink running citizens over. The road bond is another good example.
