I don't like driving into San Marcos and going through that area to get to their stores is taking one's life into their own hands. I avoid it at all cost, if I can. I do like that new area where the Target/Academy is and I do like the outlet mall on occasion to meet up with friends for lunch. The new roadway will make it much safer/easier. It could also save lives when you think about it because it will make it faster for emergency medical vehicles and people who fall ill to get the help they need at hospitals much faster not having to go through San Marcos. That fact alone makes the roadway worth it. I wasn't in this area when all the deciding was going on about the developing of that road but boy oh boy...I bet it was WAR.

It's a huge amount of asphalt over the aquifer and caves. So much for protecting the aquifer.

I'm looking forward to saving time and avoiding the residential areas. Most of my destinations are in that part of San Marcos, so it's a welcome short-cut. Guess each of us has our own take on the new roadway.

Quess protecting the old buildings from the pollution of pass thru traffic going to Wimberley overrode concerns about the aquifer. See it as a win-win situation for Wimberley and a probable loss for some businesses, especially gas stations, between 1-35 and the WW Drive/RR 12 connection. I know coming in from Houston I will just get on the feeder and hit WW drive (which I think a part should be renamed as Wimberley Way). Now if they could just put in a connection to 1-10 to bypass Martindale-Luling.

I understand the convenience of avoiding downtown San Marcos traffic, particularly train crossings, but dumping the traffic on RR 12 takes them where ? Wimberley? Blanco? I would imagine that in order to avoid Wimberley Square, then the traffic will come down 1492, a narrow, winding road leading to a one-lane low water bridge filled with families with children & dogs, who are not aware they're on a road but a convenient launching pad into the Blanco.Disaster...........

cgm, Did you forget about the great Wintersmill Bypass built so emergency and other traffic wouldn't get bogged down at the square (at the same time the middle lane was built through town)?

Other than Sun. mornings, I've seen very little if any traffic on the bypass. Seems like a giant waste of tax money.

Took the extension twice now - shaves 15-20 minutes off trips to Target and Best Buy - riddled with speed traps - but very nice

Seemed kind of long and meandering to me but probably because it is just wide open space. Nice drive though. Where are the speedtraps? The things on the road are to count traffic to get back money from the State I think.

Police are up at the front of the san marcos direct entrance - hiding behind construction vehicles - one literally did a uturn in front of me and with two small kids in the truck I swerved into the other lane, honked my horn and he literally flipped me off, followed me for 50 yards and then when I put my blinker on to pull over, he turned his lights off and turned around - and chased someone else down...classy

Tbase.......are you serious? Wow. Thanks for the warning regarding speed traps. I've seen a few very clever one's around the area. He really flipped you off? What great representation for the career field of law enforcement. Sad.

Kayh - what is going on with your periodic deluge of comments which are usually tagged on to old posts? At first I thought well maybe the person doesn't have a computer at home but then noting the times its clear you aren't blogging from the library.
