We were curious and drove down River Road to check this out - there's a For Lease sign out there. I guess that's that. It's a shame because it's like the end of an era unless something else is planned in a different location. We started talking about the old John Henry's (now where another restaurant is on Cypress Creek on the square). I think the owner's name is Dave Lewis and they served the best hamburgers around and other food, too. Then Lewis moved his restaurant over to that River Road location and made it TexMex. John or Juan Enriques or something. The Bistro is a very recent incarnation and it did seem to be mighty close to another little restaurant that serves that kind of food. But that may have nothing to do with it. Does anyone know Dave Lewis and know what his plans are with any more eateries? No matter how many different people keep coming in to rent and try to run those restaurants down at the Junction, there are never enough close in. I think Lewis must have been the guy to last the longest in that business in this tough little town. One of the longest? Sorry to see him go if he's leaving the business. If he isn't I'd sure like to know where his next location is.

Zac, I read a letter to the editor last week in our local paper, written by Dave Lewis, and he explained that he was tired and the economy had really taken a bite out of his business and he just couldn't do it anymore; and it sounds like he was ready to move on to the next chapter in his life.Another restaurant here in Wimberley bites the dust; whether you liked his place/food or not, at least it was consistent, and yes, it had been around a long time. Getting harder by the day to be any sort of "foodie" around here.... Looks like Cypress Creek Cafe is getting ready to "re"-open. Hope springs eternal.

Well said, 2Labs.I know we all wish him well. I still like thinking back on those hamburgers back in the John Henry's days. Whatever he moves on to do you know it has to be easier than trying to keep an eating place going in this town. Maybe it's because another 40 minutes away there are all those spectacular places to eat in Austin or San Antonio, or even one picturesque place in Gruene. I'm thinking take-out might be the answer in Wimberley. Or not.

I can imagine how the guy feels, I'm getting towards that feeling myself. I think the longest running culinary show in town is the Burger Barn. It dates to the 70s, I believe. But good luck Dave, stay or leave it has always been good to know you. What about that irritating pest of a pet, Mr. Bunny?

I can't believe that Dave will just disappear. I drive down River Road almost every day & now it's like visiting a grave site....no cars..... nada. I've been here over 15 years & Dave's always provided good food & a very caring attitude. It's sad for me but hopefully joyous for Dave. Hope to see him around & let him know he's missed.

Wow....shocked that he closed it down. Hubby and I ate there when they re-named it. The food was really good and the staff was very kind and professional. We had a very nice meal that day. I wish him well. I was in the restaurant business myself for a while and it is one hard business to be in. So much goes into it that people don't realize. From vendors to staffing to having to deal with theft, loss of profits...all of that adds up to major stress. That he succeeded this long say's he did in fact give it all he had.

This is just hearsay but the for lease sign is gone and I "heard" that two sisters have the business. Cuisine and business plan are unknown to me. Just for us gossipy types! I know I'm the only one.
