As I understand the article in the Statesman, Catfish Pigg sued citing 11 cases of possable voter fraud, so the citizens of Wimberley get to pay for another election. Why not haul the 11 voters in and ask who they voted for? Given the two vote difference, they will lie. At least hit them up for the cost of the special election. It's just me, and I can't vote in the city election; but do you really want a councilman Catfish Pigg? [This message has been edited by Reddog (edited August 05, 2010).]

Sounds like Catfish Pigg is a sore loser.

It does seem a bit much. This might have been one time when the guy in the right ought to have just put up with it. I probably would have put up a stink too however.

Did they check all those that voted for PIGG as well? Are they all on the up & up as well? Does he have a few with questionable moves, home address's or work address's too? Nothing like a little Political stick and moves to get the locals in an uproar! I like the part that he is not only sore about loosing, he is suing to get all his lawyer cost paid as well! NOW, THAT WILL GET YOU VOTES! I was told years ago by a couple of old timers here, "that not all the people here had all their oars in the water" and "that their cheese had slipped of their cracker". Wish these guys were alive to see this stuff going on! They would get a kick out it! Wonder what Mr. Pigg would do for a PAYING JOB? Makes you wonder?

Catfish Pigg ought to change his name to Crayfish Pigg ---- what with all of his indecision and moving in one direction and then another.First the election was over as far as Crayfish was concerned. Now it isn't over as far as he is concerned. God help us if he ends up on the city council. Meetings could go on forever!

It's a crying shame I don't live within the city limits cause ain't no way Pigg would garner my vote. Who's ever to know how those so call fraudulant voters cast their votes. Maybe 6 or 7 voted for Pigg. Now wouldn't that be a hoot...... Oh well, the good folks in Wimberley have one more chance to get it right, but at the cost of several thousand dollars.

Also, there must be a tremendous ego at work here.I understand that the finances for the lawyer and for the court fees are not being put up by the suing candidate, and the bills are being footed by one or two major supporters. It's unfortunate that the candidate being sued is having to come up with his own funding for his defense to the tune of upwards of $10K. That's a lot of money to spend for a job that pays nothing. Kind of makes one wonder who the losing candidate would be beholden to if he wins the special election. It's kind of obvious who the people who run the cafe on the square are supporting. Their lunch special chalkboard on Friday read something like, "Mac's favorite special, fried catfish!" Glad to see that someone still has a sense of humor. If I could vote in the election, I surely wouldn't vote for the guy who started all this with his lawsuit.

It struck me that given the odds 5 of those votes would have been for Pigg.Personally I wuld apply the recount rule to the special election if you call for a recount, and still lose, you get to pay for it. So, Catfish, you willing to pony up $4K or so?

I agree with the prior post. I wonder what his backers have in mind for us Wimberley Folks, IF again IF he wins the election (which I find it almost certainly out of the question, with all the news of the cost and making Mr. Mac pay for his Lawyer fees). It just astounds me that we are witnessing some of the Old Texas Good ol'Boys network at work here. Not hearing too much from Mr. Pigg, I guess he is keeping quite until later in Sept.. Wonder what his posters and adds (if any) will say. Like I said before.....all this for a non-paying job! Does he not know that citizens are not to keen to any additional cost to city government. He should be happy that he got some free advertising from John Kelso's article last week on his nick name: CATFISH! As far as I'm concerned....there was an election, votes were counted dozens of times and he lost and Mr. Mack was sworn in as one of our Councilmen and that is that. He will more than likely get a heck of alot less votes than he got last time. AW......TEXAS POLITICS!!!!!!!!!!

Each opposing side is suing for legal costs - just because one party to the suit loses, does not mean that they are by default responsible for entire amount. If the judge finds the suit friviolous and without merit - he will attach some or all of the fees. That is standard in any suit.

Being awarded legal fees is actually not very common. I want the loser in the special election to pay for that. I don't care at all about the personal finances of the two candidates, just worried about the hit on the taxpayer's pocketbook.

If this guy is so intent on fighting over two votes and saving the taxpayers money, he should offer to pay for the new election himself. That would be cheaper than what his handlers are paying the lawyer.

Without commenting on Mr. Pigg’s candidacy, I assume the reference to his name is meant to be humorous. Having a more mainstream name doesn’t guarantee a fine character nor does an unusual name portend a bad character.Though she never held public office, Miss. Ima Hogg (1882 – 1975), was known as "The First Lady of Texas” and was the daughter of Texas Governor James Stephen "Big Jim" Hogg. She was one of the most respected women of the 20th century in Texas.
