Does Wimberley have a designated emergency shelter for those who have to leave their homes due to flooding or for those who can't get home because of a flooded roadway/low water crossing?

I heard through the WSCAI grapevine that the community center was opened last night for families that were evacuated from the Sleep Hollow RV park. However, the RV Park owners (the Dunns, I think) put all of the evacuees up in a hotel in San Marcos.I think it's pretty cool that Wimberley opened a shelter and also cool that the RV park owner stepped up to the plate for his tennants. Score two for the good guys.

I'd bet that CERT can answer this question for us. Their website is here:http://visitwimberley.com/cert/ You can use the volunteer form to send a message and I'm sure they'll be responsive. This is an excellent question. Please keep us posted about what you may learn.

Talk about being computer challenged can't transfer from my email but here is the reply I received from Lewis Smith: The answer to your question that came to me via the forum is that shelters are opened as needed during an event and may range from community centers, churches to schools. The shelter designated may depend upon several variables such as the time of the incident, type of emergency, access to the shelter locations and what else may be going on at the time of the incident. However, once a shelter is designated, those affected by the incident would be informed as to what is available and opened at that time.

Appreciate your efforts but I don't know anymore than I did before. I have to leave my home or can't get to my home - who do I call? Sounds like the answer is a hotel if you have the money, friends or well good luck to you. Sure wouldn't do any good to listen to the news because I very rarely hear anything about Wimberley.

Or Dripping Springs or San Marcos. In short, Hays County doesn't really exist. It, and us, are all figments of our collective imagination. Look over in the corner, Rod Serling is smoking.
