Does anyone know what kind of bird makes the sound that kind of sounds like a spoon hitting a glass? It's like a single high sound. I've never noticed this type of sound before and I can't figure out what it is.
Thanks!

I’m no bird expert and sounds are hard to describe but my first thought was a Grackle. They make sounds that are nothing like any other bird. Even a noisy parrot would have difficulty mimicking a Grackle. They usually make a series of anoying sounds rather than a single note. There are 2 different Grackles that frequent central Texas, the Boat-Tailed Grackle and the Common Grackle. The Boat-Tailed is the really noisy one. They are actually pretty birds with a colored sheen to their feathers looking like long tailed black birds.

I was trying to figure out last night how to describe the sound. It's like a single ping. Infrequently there are a couple of "pings" in a row. It's not like any bird I have heard before.

Miss Chris.....this a.m. I heard what I think your describing and I couldn't spot the bird itself. I thought at first when I heard it that it was almost like a wind chime of some kind.......I remembered your post. Smiled knowing I wasn't hearing things.
Have a great day!

My first thought was mockingbird that has not mastered the car alarm song.

What time of Day?

My husband and I have sat out on the porch in the morning and the afternoon and heard it. It just "pings" once and we look at each other...what the heck is it? Then it moves a little and another "ping" later. Any clues?

I just got home and heard it again. It might be better described as a "dink" sound. Imagine that "dink" in a high tone. I know some of you out there are experts. I look forward to your help solving the mystery.

I'm going to bet it's a wren. They will make a single note like that.

Is anything building nests every where? If so, wren.

I finally found out what kind of bird was making the weird call. It was a rare septic bird...lol. It was our darn aerobic septic system pinging every now and then. That system has been nothing but a money drainer. At least now I know where the sound came from.
Thanks again to everyone who tried to help identify.
