Wimberley Concert Association Presents Gypsy Moon

Gypsy Moon, guitar duo Linda and Ray Sriro, will perform on Thursday, January 11, 2007 at 7 PM at Chapel in the Hills, 14601 RR 12, Wimberley.

Come and warm up your winter evening with some jazzy gypsy swing!
Long time local performers Ray and Linda Sriro, have been entertaining area residents for more than 20 years. Linda has performed many times with the Wimberley Players and San Marcos Performing Arts and in her Andrews Sisters Trio, “Destination.” Ray’s amazing dexterity on guitar ensures that the quality of their performances are always wonderful and an event to remember.

Ray and Linda both began playing guitar at the age of 14. When they met they began to explore jazz and swing standards. Linda drifted away from the guitar for awhile and became an experienced vocalist, singing everything from blues to jazz to musical theater. The couple longed to play together again but couldn’t find the right vehicle for their diverse styles until they discovered the music of Gypsy Swing.

Ray and Linda began performing Gypsy Swing music as the duo “Gypsy Moon” in 2004, and have released two CD’s, “Ebb and Flow,” and “Waltz Across Texas.”

Gypsy swing (also known as "Gypsy Jazz") is an idiom said to have been started by the Ferré brothers in the late 1920s. It became popular through the work of guitarist Django Reinhardt, who was foremost among a group of guitarists working in and around Paris in the late 1920s and 30s. Reinhardt was noted for combining a dark, chromatic Gypsy flavor with the swing articulation of the period, a combination critical to gypsy jazz.

Gypsy Moon is full of rhythm and romance. The music of Ray and Linda Sriro will soothe your soul and excite your senses.

The concert takes place at Chapel in the Hills, 14601 Ranch Road 12, in Wimberley.  Suggested donation is $6 for adults. Children are admitted free with a supervising adult. Students are always welcomed at no charge.
