A Texas Hill Country tradition, the Annual CPRA Sanctioned/Open VFW Rodeo  has been held for  78 years on the first weekend in July at the VFW's rodeo grounds, Chester Franklin Arena, north of Wimberley on Jacobs Well Rd., just off Ranch Road 12.

Once the largest outdoor rodeo in Texas, the event still ranks near the top.  This is a Cowboys Professional Rodeo Assn. -CPRA- sanctioned/open event
(Ranked "Best CPRA Rodeo of the Year" in the 2006 CPRA Hall of Fame).
The VFW Rodeo is sponsored by Wimberley's VFW Post 6441 and Ladies Auxiliary as a not-for-profit event.The Rodeo Producer is Mr. Bo Davis of DVS Productions from Gonzales, Texas, and the stock contractor is the Cadillac Rodeo Company.
Proceeds are used to support a variety of veteran and community activities and organizations.

2025 TICKET INFORMATION AND BOX SEATS

  • Tickets at the Gate: Adults - $25, Children 12 - 4 years old - $15, 3 and under free
  • Tickets can be purchased in person at the VFW Hall located at 401 Jacobs Well Rd. (CR182) on June 29th and June 30th, from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. Advance ticket prices are Adults-$20; Children 12 & under $10. Cash, check, or major credit cards will be accepted. A 3% service charge will be added for all credit and debit card purchases. Limited box seat tickets may be available for $75 in person on advance ticket purchase days only.
  • General admission parking included with adult ticket.

Thursday, Friday, Saturday (July 3rd, 4th and 5th, 2025)
Gates open at 5:30, First Mutton Bustin' at 7:00, Rodeo begins at 8:00

  • Events include: bull riding, tie down calf roping, bareback & saddle bronc riding, steer wrestling, team roping, women's breakaway roping, and women's barrel racing
  • 2nd Mutton Bustin' event midway in Rodeo
  • 2 youth calf scramble events nightly. One for ages 7-12 and another for ages 13-17.
  • Adult calf scramble nightly for ages 16 and up. (prizes awarded to be age appropriate.)
  • A vintage airplane flyover by the Commemorative Air Force at the beginning of each show.
  • Fireworks nightly at the end of the show (weather conditions permitting)
  • Pro Rodeo Hall of Fame bull-fighter, clown and barrel man Leon Coffee will be featured at each event.
  • Tickets at the Gate: Adults - $25; Children 12 & under $15. Children 3 & under FREE

Also...

  • Nightly performances of the Lone Star Cowgirls, a rodeo precisionriding team, known for their beautiful painted horses and sparkling red, white and blue costumes beautiful painted horses and their heart warming tribute to the United States Armed Forces.
  • Food and other vendors will be located on the grounds
  • Beer sales on the grounds, BYOB is also permitted
  • Mutton Bustin' registration at Merkin Hall (ticket booth) East door at 6:00 p.m. YOU MUST HAVE A WRISTBAND TO ENTER. The cost is $30 per ride; 60lb. max rider weight. Riders compete for the Ellen Allen Memorial Rodeo Buckles (parents please enforce weight limits so it is fair for all including the sheep)

The 79th annual VFW Rodeo will bring back the after-rodeo dance for the final day of the rodeo. The dance will be held inside the Wimberley VFW Hall and will feature live music for a night of great dancing . Doors open at the conclusion of the rodeo and the last dance will be at 12:30. BYOB A limited number of seats and tables will be available. Beverages & snacks will also be available' The presale price of $15 ($25 at the door) is a donation to the Wimberley VFW. Donation is entry only! Tables and chairs are first come first served. Ticket & table requests will be filled in order of receipt.
