The Annual Pro-Open Wimberley VFW Rodeo, traditionally held on the first weekend in July,
was filled with excitement and fun, including spontaneous sky shows
with 4th of July fireworks across Wimberley. Drawing participants and crowds from all over the Texas and beyond,
the 2003 rodeo
enjoyed great
weather - cool with just enough moisture to create the mud so necessary for the ultimate calf scrambles.
In addition to the calf scrambles, rodeo events included bareback bronc riding, calf roping, steer dogging, ladies breakaway roping, team roping, ladies barrel racing, wild bull riding and the very popular mutton busting events for youngsters.
A dance
followed the rodeo each night to top off a perfect evening, the kind of which is only found in Wimberley. Friday night's rodeo sky featured a beautiful rainbow to frame the crowds and events. The location is beautiful, the people are friendly and the entertainment is first rate.
VFW's Oldham-Cummings Post No. 6441 has been holding this event since 1946.
Don't miss next year's Wimberley Rodeo!
