Mark Cruz is an extraordinary guitarist and versatile composer. His musical expertise spans the genres of classical, jazz, folk, and rock. He was well known as a teacher, performer, and recording artist in his native Oklahoma City, and he is rapidly gaining renown as a composer and performer in the Austin area, since he recently relocated here with his wife, daughter, and cat named Paco. Since then they have added a new family member, a son named Zachary.
Although Mark is still teaching, he has spent most of his time the last few years composing, arranging, and performing. As a composer, Mark has written solo works for guitar and for piano. His arrangements for solo guitar include sacred music, wedding and pop songs, Christmas carols, and hymns. Recently, he has expanded his original repertoire of instrumental compositions to include choral music as well.
Mark is currently an instructor on the Strings Faculty in the Southwest Texas State University School of Music.
Featured in a 2003 concert by the Wimberley Concert Association, he performed music by Bach and Vivaldi, some classic hymns arranged for solo guitar, and some popular music.
