A Hill Country tradition, the 59th Annual Veterans of Foreign Wars
Rodeo
returned to Wimberley Friday, Saturday and Sunday, July 2nd through the
4th, 2004.
It is held each year at the Veterans Park rodeo grounds located three miles north of Wimberley just off Ranch Road 12.
The 2004 Rodeo was bigger,
better and more fun for everyone! This
extravaganza brought new activities and added community involvement to make this holiday festival a real attraction for longtime attendees and newcomers alike.
Keeping such favorites as bull riding, bareback and saddle bronc riding, calf roping, barrel racing and the nightly dances, exciting changes enhanced the event. Mechanical bull rides,
an appearance by the newly-crowned Miss Rodeo
Texas, and new children's activities such as cash-in-a-haystack
were added to the program. Adults competed in
activities including the hilarious "dress-the calf" competitions.
A top-notch and very humorous rodeo clown act and a professional precision riding drill team
brought even more arena action. Each evening's rodeo
performance ended with fireworks sponsored by Old Glory Ranch that
could be seen from any high spot from Wimberley to
Driftwood. The exciting action at this year's rodeo
was produced by Lance Livingston Productions.
The location is beautiful, the people are friendly and the entertainment is first rate.
VFW's Oldham-Cummings Post No. 6441 has been holding this event since 1946.
