| Although Wimberley doesn't offer an equivalent to
the running trails at Lady Bird Lake in Austin (formerly Town Lake) or
Memorial Park and Allen Parkway in Houston, there are a few hardy souls
who hit the road regularly for a workout that can include some very
impressive hill work.
On Saturday, May 10, 2008, many runners and walkers from all over the
Wimberley area were drawn to the Wimberley 4 Mile Run to benefit Wimberley High School Project Graduation, an all-night lock in party for graduating seniors.
Wimberley Independent School District's Parent Teacher Organizations at Scudder Elementary, Bowen Intermediate and Danforth Junior High, also received some of the proceeds, along with high school class organizations and the High School Academic Booster Club Scholarship Fund. The Wimberley Swim Project (Swimberley) was also slated to receive some of the secondary proceeds.
Entrants ranged from serious runners going for a new personal best or
local record to joggers and walkers who enjoyed the event as a fun and sociable
way to get in a morning workout.
If you don't see yourself in one of the photographs above, you may well see a friend or neighbor. If not, you'll surely enjoy the scenery and take a moment to appreciate the kindness of the race planners who incorporated one of Wimberley's interesting gradients, the little hill on Green Acres, not as an uphill climb, but as a downhill wheeee....! Now we're talking fun run!
Congratulations from VisitWimberley.com to everyone who took part,
each a champion.
